Many companies block third-party apps from connecting directly to work accounts. If Watt can't connect your work calendar, it's almost always this β a policy set by your employer, not a problem with your account.
There are two ways around it.
Before you start
Sharing rules vary by company. Some allow sharing a work calendar with a personal account, some restrict it to your organisation, and some prohibit it. Check your own company's policy before sharing work data with a personal account.
If you'd rather not, use option 1 instead.
Option 1: ask IT to approve Watt
This is the cleaner route, and it keeps everything on your work account.
In the app, open the Your work calendar may be restricted screen and tap Email my IT team. Watt opens a prefilled email for you to address to your IT contact. It lays out what Watt accesses, what it doesn't, and how the data is handled, and links to our IT briefing page for their review.
Option 2: share your work calendar with your personal account
If your company allows calendar sharing, you can share your work calendar with a personal account, add that account on your phone, and connect it to Watt. Watt then reads your work events through your personal calendar.
Google Workspace
- Open Google Calendar on a computer, signed in to your work account.
- In the left sidebar, hover your calendar under My calendars, click the three dots, and choose Settings and sharing.
- Scroll to Share with specific people or groups and click Add people and groups.
- Enter your personal Gmail address.
- Set permissions to See all event details and click Send.
- Open the invitation email in your personal account and accept it.
- In Watt, connect that personal Google account and tick the shared work calendar on the Select Calendars screen.
Outlook / Microsoft 365
- Open Outlook on the web, signed in to your work account.
- Click Share in the top bar and pick the calendar to share.
- Enter your personal email address.
- Set permissions to Can view all details and click Share.
- Accept the invitation from your personal account.
- In Watt, connect that personal account and tick the shared calendar.
Through the iPhone Calendar app
If your work account is already set up in iOS Settings β Calendar β Accounts, Watt can often read it through Apple Calendar without any direct connection to your employer's systems.
In Watt, connect Apple Calendar and tick your work calendar on the Select Calendars screen.
What Watt reads either way
Only the events on the calendars you tick β their times, titles and duration. Watt doesn't read your email, contacts or files. Shared calendars are read-only in this setup, so nothing Watt does can change your work calendar.
If the shared calendar doesn't appear
- Confirm you accepted the sharing invitation from your personal account.
- Check the calendar is visible in that account's own calendar app first β if it isn't there, Watt can't see it either.
- In Watt, reopen Senses β CALENDARS β Select Calendars. Newly shared calendars need to be ticked; they aren't added automatically.
- Make sure sharing was set to show full event details. "Free/busy only" gives Watt times without titles, so events show up unlabelled.
